The barn is 1 mile from the village of Shebbear pronounced Sheb-be-er. Shebbear is predominantly a farming village set in the midst of unspoiled Devon countryside between Hatherleigh and Holsworthy in North West Devon. The village is known for its tradition of turning the Devil’s Stone, which takes place each year on the fifth of November. The stone is located outside the village church opposite the pub and is of a composition unknown anywhere in Europe. Legend has it that the stone fell out of the Devil’s pocket as he fell from Heaven to Hell. The church bell ringers turn it each year to keep the Devil away! The barn is within easy reach of some beautiful beaches, coastal walks, great pubs, children’s attractions and much more …………..
The barn is conveniently located just 6 miles from the Tarka Trail and RHS Rosemoor, 20 minutes from the North Devon and Cornwall coast, and just 30 minutes from Dartmoor. See below for some recommendations, all tried and tested by ourselves and previous guests 😊.
In the Village, just over a mile away we have an award winning, Good Beer Guide listed, dog friendly pub known as the Devils Stone Inn. This has the reputation for being the most haunted pub in Devon!
